Job Description

Job Title and Organisation

The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. We work at the invitation of governments to support them and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems.

Program Overview

Malaria remains one of the world's leading causes of illness, death, and lost economic productivity. Over the past decade, substantial increases in donor funding had enabled the large-scale rollout of effective prevention, diagnosis, and treatment interventions. This investment successfully reduced the malaria burden across many settings, with several countries having initiated pathways toward elimination. However, in a context now defined by a progressive contraction of resources, these hard-won gains are increasingly at risk. Declining funding threatens the continuity of malaria programs. It is therefore critical to prioritize high-impact interventions, maximize spending efficiency, and accelerate the mobilization of domestic resources — to safeguard progress achieved and sustain momentum toward elimination goals.

Position Overview

CHAI is seeking a data-focused Malaria Surveillance Analyst to support the Ministry of Health in Burkina Faso. Based in Ouagadougou, the Analyst will work closely with key stakeholders across district, regional, and central levels, and engage with donors and the broader international community in-country.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted partner to the Malaria and CHW departments as required on data analysis.
  • Support the rollout and monitoring the performance of existing and new surveillance processes and platforms for improved data collection, reporting, data management, automated analysis and data visualization e.g. using dashboards.
  • Contribute to embedding a culture of data-driven decision-making by strengthening the quality, utilization, and translating findings into actionable programmatic insights through high-quality presentations and reports.
  • Support institutionalization of data reviews at all levels, including the development and use of data collection tools and dashboards (e.g., Tableau, DHIS2, etc.).
  • Contribute to the formulation of relevant disease programs documents including but not limited to surveillance guidelines and SOPs, M&E plans, lessons learned documents and operational manuals.
  • Support the development and implementation of comprehensive research study protocols, including the design of sampling strategies, development of data collection tools, and elaboration of analysis plans, ensuring their effective operationalization during the field implementation phase.
  • Represent CHAI at external technical meetings with local academic and technical partners.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical conduct and ensure data privacy.
  • Other potential responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Statistics or related field;
  • 2 years of working experience with increasing levels of responsibility and leadership, including in program management;
  • Experience conducting and managing epidemiological research in country, including the analysis of surveillance and survey data;
  • Familiarity with data entry, data management, epidemiological analysis and statistical analysis using statistical software (R, STATA and/or other relevant software);
  • Enthusiasm for applying research methods to solve global health problems focusing on malaria
  • Experience working and communicating with government officials and other external partners;
  • High levels of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet applications;
  • Ability to work independently in remote and unstructured settings and to adapt to new environments and challenges;
  • Ability to be effective in high-pressure situations;
  • Ability to collaborate and operate as part of a multicultural team;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a good command of spoken and written French and English, as well as the ability to make convincing presentations and write reports;
  • Willingness to travel (30-50% of time).

Advantages

  • Experience working in fast-paced, output-oriented environments;
  • Experience living or working in resource-limited settings, especially in Africa;
